Description
Sign up here to receive your Burns and McDonnell CSA provided by Where the Redfearn Grows Natural Farms.
Enjoy Weekly boxes of farm fresh produce from our Independence Missouri Farm delivered weekly to your workplace. Meet and connect with your farmers and other health conscious foodies. Know where your food comes from and that it was grown for you using time-tested organic practices without being sprayed with chemical pesticides or herbicides.
Two share size options to choose from to fit your budget and living situation. We’ll communicate with you weekly about what to expect in the coming week’s share and to offer storage tips and recipes as well as some info about what your Redfearn family farmers have been up to on the farm.
Single share boxes will include 6 to 7 types of vegetables weekly while the Family share boxes will include 10 to 12 types of vegetables with some of them including larger quantities.
Example Boxes:
Single Share:
3 homegrown tomatoes
1 bunch kale
1 bag spring mix
1 cucumber
1 bunch carrots
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch green onions
Family Share:
5 homegrown tomatoes
1 bunch kale
1 bag spring mix
2 cucumbers
1 bunch carrots
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch green onions
1 qt green beans
3 zucchini
Choices and variety:
Our farm grows a wide diversity of crops that change with the seasons. As vegetables come in and out of season, box contents will change. But we grow more variety than we can include in any given weekly box. To allow for more choice without overcomplicating the pickup process, we plan to provide 3 ways you can customize your box.
1) Multiple box configurations: each week in our correspondence with members we will explain the contents of a couple box configurations. These will be prepackaged, so there will be no need to make an order, just select box 1 or box 2 at pickup for the share size you ordered.
Let’s say the example boxes above were configuration 1 and those boxes were marked “Single 1” or “Family 1”, maybe configuration 2 would look like the above except there was 1 bok choy bunch instead of kale, 1 beet bunch instead of carrots, 1 bunch of dill instead of cilantro, and 2 eggplant instead of zucchini. Choose the configuration you want to get more of what you like.
2) Swap Table: Maybe you didn’t like everything in the configuration you chose; maybe you hate tomatoes; or maybe you arrived late and we ran out of the configuration you were looking for. In that case, the swap table will come in handy. Put an item or items you don’t want from your share on the table and pick out something that someone else discarded. (We’ll pre-stock the swap table with some items so even if you are the first to arrive, you can make some alterations to your box).
3) Wild Card Items: Let’s face it, some people just hate arugula, or fennel, or don’t even know what a kohlrabi is, while others may be more adventurous. We grow a wide array of vegetables but some of them take a special person to appreciate them. In our communication we’ll let you know about any wildcard items that we will be bringing along. We’ll put them on the swap table to start with and you can feel free to swap away some items to acquire one of these wild card items.
